With a paid staff of four full-time people and four part-time people, this ministry relies heavily on the efforts of many volunteers. We prayerfully consider each applicant, and then once more pray about their specific involvement here.
In addition to the initial "Meet the Clinic" training for all volunteers, we provide specific training for each position in the Clinic. Training for Patient Advocates and Healthcare Professionals is the most extensive, with 4-6 hours of didactic online counseling training plus an internship program which varies depending on position and must be completed within 3 months.
Other volunteers assist patients in our Earn While You Learn Program, as well as in maintaining Hannah's Closet, where patients can shop for gently used infant clothing. Knowing there's practical help available is often a major factor in a patient deciding to choose life.
Administrative volunteers assemble patient packets and other materials, prepare mailings to go out and assist with general functioning of the "office" side of the ministry. It takes many volunteers in many capacities to put together special events, such as the Walk for Life and Annual Fundraising Banquet. Other volunteers serve as liaisons in their church community and provide information about AWC to their members.
Financial and Material Needs Involvement:
Many have helped in the area of raising funds to allow our doors to stay open.
They do this through filling a table at our annual fundraising banquet with like-minded individuals who have the capacity to give to this ministry. Some underwrite the cost of the banquet.
Some underwrite special endeavors at the Clinic. Some faithfully supply monthly gifts for the day-to-day expenses.
Some invite a small group of friends into their home, and invite us to come and briefly share all that God is doing here, giving their associates the opportunity to consider their own potential involvement.
Several have hosted "baby showers" for Alternatives. Participants bring new baby items for the layettes we give moms after the baby is born. And always, lots of diapers!
Change for Life: Support the lives of babies and mothers by holding a "Change for Life" Baby Bottle Campaign in your Sunday School, Preschool, or Bible Study Class. Your donations will be used to save the lives of babies and impact the lives of their mothers. You will be asked to distribute baby bottles to be filled with change, bills or checks during a specific period of time and then returned to you. The filled bottles will be delivered to Alternatives. If you would be interested in coordinating a campaign with your group or school, please call Tammy at 760.741.9796 and God bless.
